I am proud to announce that this summer I will be interning at Tri-State Pain Institute in Erie, Pennsylvania under Dr. Thomas and his staff. Some of my roles and responsibilities include researching the current opioid and fentanyl crisis, the state and federal government’s current role in such, and how this has impacted patients’ ability to be prescribed these medications. Additionally, I will be creating patient education materials in the areas of managing chronic pain, safe medication usage, safe and effective pain management methods, and self-management of chronic pain. To do such, I will also identify commonly used communication channels among patients at Tri-State Pain Institute and tailoring health promotion and education materials to the identified channels. This internship will allow me the opportunity to strengthen my professional communication skills, work directly with patients and community members, and follow all ethical guidelines and HIPAA policies in maintaining patient confidentiality.

Volunteer Experience

UGA Panhellenic: Gamma Chi

During my time as a Gamma Chi for UGA Panhellenic, I temporarily disaffiliated from my chapter to provide an unbiased and neutral standpoint to all the Potential New Members (PNMs). I served as a direct mentor for 16 PNMs at the start of their college career during primary fall recruitment. I communicated schedule updates, provided emotional support throughout the process, and was able to answer any questions about the formal process. I also ensured that all 21 chapters abided by the recruitment rules and used ethical recruitment practices.

UGA Miracle: Family Relations

Member of the Family Relations Committee where I attended weekly meetings to receive information about organizational updates. Participated in year-long fundraising pushes and activities directly supporting Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. I established relationships with our Miracle Families and was actively involved with them on Family Days like Washington Farms and Dance Marathon.
